This is the California 2-spot octopus. They can be abundant in the intertidal zones as well as occurring sub-tidally. Their arm spread is about 60 cm and can be distinguished by the 2 eye-spots located just below their actual eyes.
The literature lists two species, O. bimaculoides and O. bimaculatus. Current literature lists them as synonymous with the chosen name being O. bimaculoides. Like all octopods, they are masters of camouflage and defend themselves by ejecting ink to cover their escape.
