We occasionally had some time off from ballooning and our hosts would arrange to take us out, unfortunately it was often to a mall. We finally convinced them that we did not want to spend the remaining 2 hours of our day off in a mall so this is where they took us. Even with the museum and the shrines closed for New Year’s Eve it was infinitely better than the mall.
At 108 meters from the base, the Fo Guang Big Buddha is the highest seated bronze Buddha in the world. The memorial center also includes 8 pagodas and 4 stupas.
Eighteen stone Arhats flank the concourse and the patriarchs of the Eight schools line the front of the main hall.
Every square on the stupas contains a carving.
The the north-side of the center has a bell tower which is rung at sunrise and the south-side has a drum tower which is used at sunset.
