Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

This is the first day of National Park week.  I’m going to be posting a new photo everyday from a different park to encourage everyone to take advantage of these wonderful places.

This photograph was taken at Organ Pipe Cactus NM in southern Arizona.  It is the signature species of the park, Stenocereus thurberi commonly called organ pipe cactus, it only grows in the Sonoran desert which encompasses part of southern Arizona and California, northwestern Mexico and much of Baja Mexico. The park represents the northern most extension the plants range.
