On the recommendation of our awesome Utah crew and tour guides, we headed out early, 5:30AM, to Calf Creek Falls in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument for a 2.5-3 mile hike into an oasis created by the cool spray coming off the 126′ waterfall. We had the falls to ourselves for about 10 minutes; if we had left at our planned 5AM we would have had better light on the falls and a cooler walk back.
As with most of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, the hike and falls are pet friendly but keep them leashed on the trail which can be narrow at times. K’Ehleyr had a great time running, swimming and digging.
The walk back out was extremely hot and seemed much longer than the walk in. Most of the trail is not within easy reach of the creek so there is little respite from the heat for you or your pet except the occasional shade tree so take plenty of water.
