Hot air balloon events are commonly called balloon rallies.  These gatherings can range from a few balloons to 800 balloons.  Typically a town or city hosts the event providing housing and fuel to the participating pilots.  They are funded by local sponsors who gain advertising exposure and a couple rides while the balloons are in town.

Once a balloon event is established in an area it will occur the same time each year.  Friday through Sunday are the most common.  However the 4th of July is a favorite rally time as well.

The largest annual balloon event is Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, AIBF.  Fiesta is always the first through the second weekend of October.

Hot air balloon events are a great way to learn more about the sport of ballooning and get up close to the balloons.
